January Back to School
Compare and Contrast these terms:
Advice, Feedback, Evaluation and Grades
eValuate Dashboard Highlights
2016-17
2015-16
Comparing these scores with our scores from last year inspires, motivates and gives us a new found hope that we may be onto something with our question du jour! Every indicator this year, as compared to the same month last year shows an increase, except one. A thorough review with fidelity of the questions, teaching students both the content and the various ways the content can be verified, (how to take the test) seems to come when the students get to take the test, then review the test questions so they might know where they messed up. Scholars even advocate for IMMEDIATE Formative Feedback as a vital component for growth. TEACH LESS and PROVIDE MORE FEEDBACK to produce greater learning. Well done!

Student friendly
On time

Remember,
Advice is not feedback
Grades are not feedback
Some evaluations are not feedback
It seems like so long ago.
I know are students are excited to get back to their routines, show off their new phones and see their friends. It might be a great time to refresh classroom procedures and expectations, asking for student input, now they have had a semester to assimilate into their new grade. I will discuss adjustments, resolutions and personal growth during lunches to encourage students to study their own growth and metacognition.

Runner Up???
Our students will return to us Wednesday. Even after only two weeks, many changes will be noticeable as they progress away from childhood and into adulthood. It is this transition phase that attracts us to the middle school! More like young men and women, but with some childish residue, our students look to us for decisions making processes, leadership and guidance, in subtle and latent means. This shows up in deviant behaviors brought on by stress when the transitions are magnified and pressures come with expectations for the perfect yet allusive Christmas.

Too Much Fun?
This latest installment in the Warrior Report portrays part of the Social Studies Team describing the benefits of being nice. Thank you, Gentlemen, it was inspiring. But that’s just a tip of the iceberg, from this perspective, I see so many great things happening here at Winfield Middle School. Among the staff, I see encouragement, positive feedback, safe student risk, and letting them struggle with their learning. Teams work together conscientiously to create student centered lessons, fun learning activities and safe environments free from ridicule, sarcasm and cruelty. It shows in our eValuate scores, Attendance and Discipline numbers. Thank you.
Welcome to 2017.
